Why choose a sensor combining a camera and 3D LiDAR?

A 360° field of vision

3D LiDAR generates 3D maps in the form of a point cloud with centimeter-level accuracy. Thanks to its elevated mounting, the 3D LiDAR sensor is capable of mapping the environment in 360 degrees, thus increasing spatial detection performance.

Easy installation

One of the major advantages of this technology lies in its ease of installation. Given its ability to scan the environment 360 degrees, the sensor allows for a simplified installation protocol. It does not need to be installed in a precise orientation, an operation usually carried out with the help of a surveyor.

Reliable control

While calculating speed via a conventional speed control system depends on its correct orientation, the self-alignment principle inherent in 3D LiDAR not only allows for easier installation—and therefore reduced cost—but also reliable and indisputable control.

Image processing is at the heart of PARIFEX’s research in designing increasingly reliable and efficient speed control solutions. It is essential to guarantee the reliability and effectiveness of the road traffic enforcement system. Capturing precise images makes it possible to identify the offending vehicle, the exact speed, and the date of the offense. This provides irrefutable evidence in the event of a dispute.

Accuracy of vehicle identification

The vehicle identification system developed by PARIFEX allows for the precise location of an offending vehicle in a 2D photograph, thanks to vehicle recognition technology and the ability to isolate it from the image. PARIFEX has developed a photo reading system that allows for the precise determination of the vehicle’s distance, and therefore the lane it is in. To facilitate the use of the sensors, calibration is automatic during installation. For a one-off check, for example, simply place the COMPASS at the roadside, and calibration takes only five minutes. No on-site surveyor measurements are required.

Power of the license plate identification system

PARIFEX has developed a powerful automatic license plate reading system. It is based on a high-performance image processing algorithm that guarantees optimal accuracy in character recognition. The system is designed to provide an extremely high confidence score per character read, which improves the reliability of the collected data. Each character on the license plate is identified with high precision, even under challenging conditions such as high speeds, varying lighting, or dirty or partially obstructed plates.
