Speed, a major issue for local authorities
Excessive or inappropriate speed is the leading cause of fatal accidents.
3 432
people killed on the roads of metropolitan France in 2024
29 %
fatal accidents on French roads are due to speeding
Driving just a few km/h above the legal speed limits is enough to cause serious, even irreversible, injuries.
In a collision at 50 km/h, a pedestrian has about a 20% chance of dying, and at 60–80 km/h, a 60% chance.
High speed means longer stopping distance
Speed affects a vehicle’s stopping distance. The higher the speed, the greater the stopping distance. By respecting speed limits, the risk of serious accidents is significantly reduced.
Securing traffic lights and cycle boxes
The red light is the intersection where all types of road users cross paths, especially vulnerable users such as pedestrians, cyclists, and light motorized vehicle users (scooters).
Running a red light accounted for nearly 500,000 violations in 2020. It is therefore urgent to secure these intersections and the bicycle boxes to reduce accident risks and protect users in the surrounding areas.
NOMAD
Mobility is changing, roads are adapting.
Modes of transport are constantly evolving and diversifying. Roads are now shared between cars (85% of users), walking (71%), cycling (22%), scooters (9%), and motorized two-wheelers (8%) (source: Covea).
Cycling trips increased by 30% and there were more than 2 million electric scooter users in 2022
